BENEFITS OF AEPS AND AEPSi
Hundreds of early childhood programs have used AEPS® for years to assess and provide excellent instruction to children with delays and disabilities as well as children who are at risk or typically developing. Now, with the new AEPSinteractive™ (AEPSi™), AEPS is truly a complete solution for programs that also need to meet accountability and eligibility challenges—without sacrificing quality instruction and good outcomes for children.
AEPS is reliable and valid. AEPS has been extensively studied since its beginning in 1974, and the AEPS Test shows high levels of reliability and validity. The AEPS developers continuously research and field-test AEPS to ensure that it's the most effective system for children available today. | more on the research

  • AEPS accurately measures progress in children with disabilities. AEPS Test items measure smaller increments of development than do other assessment tools, resulting in a more accurate assessment of a child's performance and progress, which in turn guides better programming and instruction.
AEPS ensures more effective programming and better child outcomes. Unlike early childhood curricula with supplemental activities for children with disabilities, AEPS was designed from the beginning to help all children make progress. The small increments of development on the AEPS Test and their seamless link to interventions in the AEPS Curriculum allow providers to accurately target and revisit children's needs and ensure they make progress. | more on effective programming
AEPS is curriculum-based. Unlike norm-referenced tests that yield only age-equivalent scores or percentiles, the AEPS Test yields results that are designed to be used to develop meaningful IFSP/IEP goals and directly inform effective curriculum and intervention programming. | more on how AEPS works
AEPS supports best practice. AEPS meets all NAEYC guidelines and DEC recommended practices for assessment and scores an "excellent" rating in all categories of the Curriculum-Based Assessment Rating Rubric, developed to help teams determine the quality of various assessments for use with young children.
AEPS is a favorite of families. Families participate as team members in assessment by completing the Family Report, which gathers information about a family's priorities and concerns about their child's development. Families also love the Child Progress Record, which provides a "picture" of children's progress toward their goals.
AEPSi significantly shortens assessment time. With the new assessment activities included in AEPSi, providers can complete the entire AEPS Test for up to 6 children at a time with only 7 or 8 everyday activities. The AEPS Test scores for each child can then be entered at one time on one screen, saving substantial time on data entry and scoring.
AEPSi lets professionals focus on children, not paperwork. AEPSi automatically scores the AEPS Test and generates all of the paperwork that would otherwise have to be created by hand: score summaries, graphs of children's progress over time, lists of IFSP/IEP targets, the AEPS Child Progress Record, and a present level of functioning report for use at IFSP/IEP meetings.
AEPSi helps programs meet OSEP reporting mandates. At no extra charge, AEPSi offers an automated, one-click OSEP report based on an expertly validated crosswalk between AEPS and OSEP Indicators #3 (Part C) and #7 (Part B, Section 619). | more on OSEP reporting
AEPSi has powerful aggregate reporting functions. In addition to creating individual child reports, programs in the same district, region, or state can be linked so that administrators can generate "roll-up" OSEP reports. We can even create custom reports for your state—just let us know your needs.
AEPSi can determine and/or corroborate eligibility for services. Now, empirically derived AEPS cutoff scores can help determine whether a child is eligible for services based on the results of the AEPS Test. With one click, AEPSi generates a comparison of the child's scores to the cutoff scores and provides guidance on using the results for eligibility determination in your state. | more on eligibility
AEPSi allows programs to collect custom data. AEPSi enables programs to add an unlimited number of their own data fields to child records so that you can collect the data your program or state requires. You own all of the data you collect or generate in AEPSi, and you can import it into your program's or state's data management system. Coming in March 2007!
AEPSi is highly secure. AEPSi meets high data security standards and fully addresses HIPAA guidelines for protected health information. It also comes with powerful but simple-to-use rights management features that enable you to specify access rights to child records and reporting functions for each user in your program.
AEPSi makes your job easier. We know that it's not easy to do what you do. That's why AEPSi is designed to make AEPS simpler to use. Plus, with free 24/7 technical support, multiple training options (including "train-the-trainer" workshops), and more, you can be confident you'll be supported in your use of AEPS. | more about training
AEPS gives you results you can trust. AEPS is highly regarded in the field for its impeccable research and excellent reliability and validity. You can be confident that AEPS will accurately assess all children and help them make real progress toward their goals.
